The paradise capital of the paradise state Kashmir is the breathtakingly beautiful Srinagar. The union territory  Srinagar is located on the banks of a tributary of the Indus river, Jhelum. The word Srinagar i<\/span><\/i><\/span>s derived from the language Sanskrit where ‘Sri’ means Lakshmi and ‘Nagar’ implies city. According to many stories, it is believed that Srinagar received importance as a city under the rulership of Ashoka the Great, the emperor of the Maurya Dynasty.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, according to other history aficionados, Srinagar was founded by the Indian emperor. Though the founder credits by many historians are granted to King Ashoka, according to many transcripts, the creator who led to this beautiful territory into the formation two thousand years back is King Pravarasena II who named it as Pravasenpur. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The place was later ruled by many kings and kingdoms. The Kushanas, King Vikramaditya,<\/span><\/span><\/i> and the Hunnic Empire. It was in 960 A.D. that Srinagar was named the capital of Kashmir.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>

The famous Muslim shrine of Srinagar is the magnificent Hazratbal Shrine. The word Hazratbal is derived from the Farsi language where Hazrat means “respected”, and bal means “place”. Hence, the shrine is a place of utmost respect and divinity. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hazratbal Shrine is Located next to the waters of the prestigious Dal Lake<\/span><\/i><\/span>. It is considered as one of the largest shrines of Kashmir and one of the holiest of the country. This glittering white marble shrine\u2019s construction began in 1968 and continued for eleven years.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the locals of the capital, it houses the sacred hair of Prophet Muhammad’s beard. A lesser-known history behind the Hazratbal is its connection to the great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jama Masjid<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

People staying or who have visited the capital of the country for a holiday will certainly be aware of one of the largest mosques of India, Jama Masjid. The iconic Jama Masjid was built by the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. But, many aren’t aware that the summer capital, Srinagar also has its very own Jama Masjid. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built more than six hundred years ago, the Srinagar Jama Masjid was commissioned by Sultan Sikandar in 1394 and completed in 1402. It holds the title of the most iconic and valuable mosque of Kashmir. The Nishant Bagh is a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been termed as the Garden of Bliss and Floating Gardens for being the second-largest Mughal Garden in Kashmir valley and one of the most popular tourist attractions of Srinagar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located on the eastern side of the surreal Dal Lake, the scenery of the Mughal gardens f<\/span>eatures the most magnificent Zabarwan mountains.
