It was initially built as a Sanskrit college which had a Saraswati temple inside it. But, was later converted into a mosque by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak who was ordered by Muhammad Ghori, the Sultan of the Ghurid Empire. One can still witness many Hindu and Jain elements like the carvings, paintings inside the mosque and on columns. A tiny Sanskrit inscription on top of the main gate reminds people of the actual origin of the mosque. The mosque is supported by <\/span><\/i><b><i>124 pillars<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an elaborate <\/span><\/i><b><i>10 dome structures<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
