Description

This central tribal tour is a delightful experience covering the interior parts of Arunachal Pradesh including Ziro, a scenic landscape hidden in the eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh. The valley is known throughout the world for the rich indigenous culture of the Apatani tribes people who live here and for the fish-cum-rice cultivation which is practiced in the terraced farms of the valley. In this tour, you will get to meet and interact with the Apatani people, opening a doorway into the lives of one of India’s most fascinating tribe. You will be also be visiting other beautiful central parts of Arunachal like Daporijo, Along, Paisghat and meet other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.

Itinerary

  • Day 1- Dibrugarh - Lakhimpur:

    Arrive at Dibrugarh airport, cross the new Bogibeel bridge, the longest railway bridge in India, across the Brahmaputra River. Then drive to Lakhimpur (150km / 4 hours) for overnight mid-way halt.

    Day 2- Lakhimpur - Ziro:

    After breakfast, drive uphill to Ziro (120km / 5 hours) in Arunachal Pradesh. Ziro is a scenic Himalayan valley which is well known for the indigenous culture of the Apatani tribe, who are famous for their face tattoos and nose plugs. Experience a homestay with an Apatani family, interact with the hosts and learn about their interesting traditions and beliefs. Afternoon will be free to explore the countryside, Walk through rice farms and see their scientific fish farming practices.

    Day 3- Ziro:

    Go on a guided walk around Hija, Hong, Bula villages of the Apatani people, visit their homes and get to interact with the Apatani villagers. Learn about their tattoo culture. One can also visit the Hapoli local market to see the interesting edibles and ingredients used by the Apatani people. The viewpoint at Hapoli also offers panoramic viewof the entire Ziro valley.

    Day 4- Ziro - Daporijo:

    After breakfast, drive uphill to Daporijo (165km / 7 hours) in the valley of Subansiri River. On the way, see some villages of Nyishi tribe near Raga. Arrive by sunset and rest in the evening.

    Day 5- Daporijo:

    Explore villages of Tagin tribe, the native people of Daporijo who still live in traditional wooden houses. Tagin villages are located along the beautiful riverside, one can also go for a swim or enjoy picnic lunch by the riverside.

    Day 6- Daporijo - Along:

    After breakfast, continue the journey to Along (160km /9 hours). Arrive by evening and check-in a family run guest house in a village near Along or stay in a riverside lodge.

    Day 7- Along:

    Spend the day exploring villages of Galo tribe, who also follow Donyi Polo religion and are considered as a part of Tani group who trace their origin to Abotani, the common ancestor of Apatani, Tagin, Galo and Adi people. Galo tribe is well known for their skills of making hanging bamboo bridges, see some remarkable bridges over Siyom River. If time permits, also visit a temple of Donyi Polo religion.

    Day 8- Along - Pasighat:

    After breakfast, travel to Pasighat (105km / 5 hours) located on the banks of Siang River (Brahmaputra). One the way, visit nearby villages of Adi tribe, who were once fierce warriors and are known for their war dances. Afternoon will be free to relax by the riverside and enjoy the scenic beauty of the foothills.

    Day 9- Pasighat - Dibrugarh:

    After breakfast, transfer to Dibrugarh airport (160km / 4 hours) for departure.
