You will travel to the high-altitude Sela Pass in Tawang District, visit Buddhist Monasteries, Yak farms, orchards, hot water springs and see the rare Black necked cranes. Guwahati, Thembang, Dirang, Tawang, Bomdila
Day 1- Guwahati - Nameri: Arrive at Guwahati airport. Drive to Nameri National Park (5 hours) in Assam which is one of the best birding destinations in Northeast. The sanctuary attracts numerous migratory birds from the Himalayan region during winters. If time permits, visit the wildlife rehabilitation centre which is engaged with the conservation of Pigmy Hogs. Accomodation: Eco Camp tents / Jia Bhoroli|
Day 2- Nameri - Thembang: Early in the morning, go for a nature walk in the forest to see the different species of birds and mammals. One can see the rare birds from the watch towers. Return for breakfast. Then, travel to Thembang (7 hours), village of the Monpa tribe in Arunachal Pradesh. It is a historic village built within a 400 year old Dzong (fortress). Experience a homestay with a Monpa family and learn about their culture and traditions. Accommodation: Homestay (basic).|
Day 3- Dirang, Sangti Valley: Go on a day trip to Dirang (1 hour) a beautiful valley on the banks of Kameng River. Spend the day visiting the Yak farm, orchards, hot water springs around Dirang. One can also visit the beautiful Sangti Valley (1 hour) and see the rare Black necked cranes which migrate from Tibet during winters.|
Day 4- Thembang - Tawang: After breakfast, drive uphill to Tawang (7 hrs). On the way, see the snowy Sela Pass (4000 mtrs.), frozen Sela Lake, Jung Waterfalls and Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Arrive by sunset. Accommodation: Mon Paradise / Dekyi Pelbar.|
Day 5- Tawang Sightseeing: Full day sightseeing around Tawang. Visit Tawang Monastery, the largest in India, Ani Gompa nunnery(monastery of nuns), Urgyeling Monastery (birthplace of Dalai Lama VI), craft centre and emporium. If time permits, visit Tawang War Memorial. Evening will be free to explore local market and try ethnic Monpa and Tibetan cuisine.|
Day 6- Lhou, Kipti: Go on a long day trip towards Bum-La pass (3 hrs.) near China border to enjoy landscape photography of the high altitude lakes such as Tsongatser Lake (popularly known as Madhuri Lake), PT Lake, Y-point, Taktsang Monastery and other viewpoints. Return by sunset. (Bum-La trip is subjected to permission from the Army). OR Day trip to Zemithang (3 hrs.) near Bhutan border. Zemithang is a beautiful Monpa village and is well known for the large Gorsam Stupa which resembles like the Boudhanath stupa of Nepal. On the way, one can see the White Tara statue at Lumla and visit few community run Buddhist orphanage schools. (Entry for foreigners is restricted in Zemithang and Bumla border areas, additional Tawang sightseeing can be arranged.)|
Day 7- Tawang - Bomdila: After breakfast, drive downhill to Bomdila (8 hrs.) for overnight mid-way halt. If time permits, visit the large GRL Monastery in Upper Bomdila. Check-in a cozy homestay near the monastery. Accommodation: Gakhil Guest House.|
Day 8- Bomdila - Guwahati: Return to Guwahati (8 hrs.) via Kalaktang. One the way, visit the old Rupa Monastery and a village of Sherdukpen tribe in Tenga Valley. Arrive by evening and rest after a long drive. Accommodation: Baruah Bhawan / Aariyan Atithya.|
Day 9- Guwahati: After breakfast, transfer to airport for departure. If time permits, on the way visit Kamakhya Temple, the main landmark of the city. Tour ends.
