Centuries ago, Mauritius was under the rule of the Dutchman but was overtaken by the French. After 250 chaotic years of struggle by the island nation, in the year 1968 Mauritius was finally independent.

Trou aux Biches

Awarded the world’s leading beach destination in 2011, Trou aux Biches is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. The Trou aux Biches beach is located just a few kilometres away from the Grand Bay. The beach stretches up to 2km.  A few centuries ago, the beach was earlier just a fishing village. Today it’s a tranquil little town that is surrounded by bushy casuarina trees, a sandy beach, a little market to roam and the perfect place to snorkelling next to the coral reefs which in some parts almost reaches all the way up to the beach.

Blue Beach Bay

Located towards the southeast region of Mauritius in the village of the Blue Bay is the famous blue bay beach. The blue bay has been righteously named as the sparkling crystal clear water of the sea and the bright yellow sun shining in the blue heaven sky is a breathtaking view that makes every minute spent here worthwhile. The beach is extremely famous for the Blue Bay marine park which is the first and biggest marine park in Mauritius. Snorkel, swim, stroll or relax on the sandy Blue Bay. It is one of the perfect spots to spend your holiday.

 Flic En Flac Beach

Flic En Flac Beach is located on the west coast of Mauritius in the Rivière Noire District. The beach is popular for being one of the longest beaches of Mauritius that goes far long till the Tamarian village. Hence, it makes for the ideal location for tourists willing to sink in the dreamlike beauty that surrounds the beach. The beach is protected by a coral reef and thus, offers the best swimming conditions that aren’t subjected to any strong sea currents. Many sea urchins can also be seen next to the seashore. Visitors are advised to stay clear from them as they can be harmful.

Tamarin Beach

Famous for being one of the best surfer beaches of Mauritius, the Tamarin Beach is located between the Flic en Flac beach and the Black River. The stunning backdrop view of the Black River mountain range and sea make the Tamarin bay a perfect place to spend your day. The freshwater of the sea is not protected by coral reefs that may lead to strong sea currents. Hence, tourists should be cautious while engaging in any form of water sports or activities. Despite this, it is one of the most ideal spots for surfing, sea bating and bodyboarding.

Riviere des Galets Beach

A rustic and petite beach located between Souillac and Bel Ombre is known as the Riviere des Galets Beach. The shiny pebbles and boulders that fill the shore and the view of the south mountain range make it a truly marvellous sight. If you are looking for a beach away from the loud chit chats of the crown, then don’t think for a minute and just board a cab from your hotel and drive up to the Riviere Des Galets Beach.

Let the wind brush your hair and calm your mind. As this beach is the perfect spot to sunbathe and relax. 

St Felix Beach

Located at the south of the island between the towns of Belle Ombre and Souillac, the St Félix beach is one of the most stunningly beautiful beaches of Mauritius. The beach is also called the ‘Chemin Grenier Beach’. The beach has been divided into the eastern and western part. the eastern part of the beach is more famous among tourists. The turquoise water, white sand, coral reef and tall leafy trees make for a mesmerizing sight. Sadly, swimming is not possible at St Felix due to the strong sea currents and the coral reefs that lie scattered on the beach.

Pereybere Beach

While driving by the Grand Baie, located just 2 kilometres away is the Pereybere beach. A popular hub for both locals and tourists, the crystal clear water is another great spot to go snorkelling.

The beach also has a small food stall on the sidelines where there are a variety of good food options like sandwiches and kebabs for you to gorge. As it is both a local and tourist favourite, the beach is usually crowded on all days of the week. Hence, if you are looking for a calm place to just read a book or sunbathe, then you might want to explore other beach options.

The Mont Choisy Beach

The Mont Choisy Beach is located just a few kilometres away from the Trou aux Biches Beach. Stretching up to 3 km in length, it is considered as the longest beach of Mauritius.

The clear blue water, corals and bushy casuarina trees make it one of the best spots for water sports. Hence, a wide range of activities are also presented to tourists and locals who are willing to try windsurfing, sea diving, fishing or speed boating.

A football field is also present near the beach, hence, if you are a football fanatic drive up to this beach.

Belle Mare Beach

The Belle Mare beach is one of the splendidly alluring beaches of Mauritius. It is one of the longest beaches of Mauritius that starts from the Belle Mare village and stretches up to the Trou dÈau Douce village. The beach is located near the town of Mahebourg between Belle Mare and Pointe de Flacq. A unique shade of blue that spreads over its pristine waters is a splendid sight for visitors, joggers or people willing to just breathe in this charming view. The beach is famous for its golf course found near the beach. 

Île Aux Cerfs Beach

A true paradise among the rest is the Île Aux Cerfs Beach. Located on the east coast of Mauritius on the deer island, the beach is desired for its beautiful lagoon and amazing range of water sport activities. The coral reef, marine life, large black rocks and the stunning island views are just the apt place for chilling or experiencing the wide water activity range. Chamarel waterfall

Ranging at a height of 80 m is the Chamarel waterfall. The waterfall is located near the Charamel village and is regarded as the highest waterfall of Mauritius. The length of the waterfall is said to be as high as the Statue of liberty. This picturesque location is a sight for sore eyes. 

The waterfall gets its water from three tributaries, the River Saint-Denis, Cascade Chamarel and La Crete. The waterfall is also acclaimed for being a known hiking spot. Seven Coloured Earth

The Seven coloured Earths or the Terres de 7 Couleurs is an unusual configuration of the Earth’s geological phenomenon. Found in the Rivière Noire District of Mauritius, this unique piece of nature has been showing its superlative beautiful range of colours for an astonishing six hundred million years. The reason behind the Charamel’s seven colours is due to a unique volcanic origin that occurred years ago. This iconic tourist spot depicts a rainbow-like range of coloured sands like red, brown, violet, green,  blue, purple and yellow. You can also visit the Chamarel village, a small town in the south-west of Mauritius. It is home to two phenomenal wonders of the Earth. 

One is the land of seven colours, and the other is the Charamel waterfalls. The St. Anne church is also one of the pretty sites of the place that can be visited whilst here.

Le Pouce

The Le Pouce the third highest mountain and is 812 meters tall. The former tall mountains include the Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire that ranges up to a height of 828 meters and Pieter Both (820 metres) that is just 8 m shorter than the Rivière Noire. The mountain can be found next to the La Laura-Malenga village in Mauritius.

The tall mountain portrays the outline of a thumb. Hence, its name, the Le Pouche is derived by its shape. Said to be formed ten million years ago due to an eruption, the Le Pouche is the second highest mountain of the Moka range. Since it isn’t an active volcano anymore, hikers looking for a minute and non-tiring trek should definitely travel to the Le Pouce peak.

Eureka House

The Eureka house was built in 1830 near the river Moka. the house has resided bt Creole residents. It was initially owned by the British and French aristocrats that provide a little glimpse for you to experience the nobles in the colonial times used to live. The house consists of  109 doors and windows. It has thousands of precious paintings and antiques reserved from the 19th century. Surrounded by the serene waterfalls originating from the Moka River and the bushy shrubs make this house makes for a pretty visit in the island country.
