Significance of G20 Summit
The G20 is considered the primary platform for international economic cooperation, with a significant impact on global governance and architecture concerning major economic issues worldwide.
India is currently holding the G20 Presidency, a position it will hold from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023. As the G20 President, India will lead discussions on a broad range of global economic issues, including sustainable development, trade, and finance. Hence, to commence the discussion, the G20 2023 Summit will be held in Kohima, Nagaland bringing together the leaders of the G20 countries to collaborate and tackle global economic challenges.
Nagaland all set to host the G20 Summit 2023 in Kohima
J Alam, the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, made a big announcement on 13th March that the state is fully prepared to host the G20 Summit on April 5 in Kohima. He further added that preparations are underway for the arrival of around 110 delegates, with 100 of them representing the 28 G20 countries and the remaining delegates from international organizations.
According to the chief secretary, the state underwent significant infrastructure improvements to the airport, roads, and venues for the event. Nagaland will host a business meeting during the summit, featuring representatives from the G20 countries. The year-long presidency of G20 by India, starting in December 2022, is a matter of great pride for the country, and meetings will be held year-round in over 33 cities as part of the G20 calendar.
Highlights Of The Event
Delegates are expected to arrive on special flights on April 4, and business delegates from major continental corporations, ambassadors, and senior representatives from their respective countries will attend the summit. The meetings will focus mainly on agriculture and allied services, the food processing industry, and tourism. Alam also confirmed that cultural programs and a showcase of Nagaland’s strengths would be held during the summit.
On April 4, the delegates will be welcomed at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima, followed by business meetings at the State Banquet Hall on April 5. A cultural evening and dinner will also be held at Kisama Naga Heritage Village, featuring the famous Hornbill Festival.
