But, check out the article below for more insights.

A Little Say About The Magnificent Valley

Straddling the border of Manipur and Nagaland states in India, Dzukou or Dzüko Valley is a euphoric landmark far-flung from the facile reach. The name ‘Dzüko’ initially derives from the Viswama dialect of the Angamis. It translates as ‘Soulless and Dull’ as the climate was not favorable for growing farm vegetation.

The discovery of the valley dates back to where the ancestors of Viswema were in a quest to establish a new village. However, the villagers realized that the weather would not yield to their sustainability in the valley. Eventually, this led them to admit that the valley is indeed beautiful but is soulless and dull, hence the name Dzukou Valley.

Where Is Dzukou Valley?

Dzukou Valley is situated between Manipur and Nagaland, two of the most charming states of Northeast India. Sitting high above 2452 m sea level, it is the pride of both the states who are avidly receiving an end number of visitors at full length. The Valley is reachable through Jakhama and Viswema, two of the admirable towns in Nagaland. Although the approach is also possible from Manipur, it is more convenient to start off from the Nagaland side.

A Brief Guide To Dzukou Valley

First Step – Reaching Nagaland:

For a contented trip to Dzukou Valley, you must at least plan to stay up to two days. If you are not around the Northeastern states of India, the best way to reach Nagaland is by flight or train. The nearest airport and railhead is in Dimapur. You can get a taxi from Dimapur to head to Kohima, the laid-back capital of the state. It takes about two to three hours to reach Kohima. From here, you can head either for Jakhama village or Viswema village to commence your onward journey to the euphoric valley.

The Journey Towards The Eye-Opening destination:

For strenuous and steep climbing, you can opt for the Jakhama route. It is a 20 km drive from Kohima to reach the base for the Dzukou trekking. However, if you want mild trekking taking a longer time to reach, you can choose the Viswema route. 25 km from Kohima and you will reach the starting point to trek in Viswema. Sharing taxis heading to Jakhama costs around Rs. 40 and Rs. 50 for Viswema from Kohima.

If you prefer to pay Rs. 1500, you can take a ride from Viswema highway till the end of a motorable road. But who cares, if you have amusing company to entertain throughout the trekking. Another sensible tip for you is to take the Viswema route while entering the valley and take the Jakhama route to exit.

Basic reminders to keep:

Meanwhile, scan for weather conditions as this place frequently bids rain out of the blue. Always have a sheet of polythene with you to cover you up in case the showers appear from nowhere on your ongoing journey. The best advice possible is to avoid the months from Mid-June to Mid-September to avoid ceaseless scotch mist. Also, pack warm clothes as night in the vicinity is super cold.

Recently, Dzukou Valley was declared a plastic free-zone, so carry any disposable plastic items at your own risk or do not carry at all. Also, do not pick or pluck flowers though it tempts you to the core. If at all, it might lead you to pay a huge fine. The basic entry fee to the destination is Rs. 30 per person.

Places to stay

While trekking along the way, you can find one or two sheltering places where you can rest your wobbly legs before you proceed again. After three to five hours of trekking, climbing, and cutting through the steep mountain peaks, you will get a sight of the resthouse. It is the place where you can spend the night. Ah, finally a shelter to preserve your energy for the next step. If you have reserved a place to stay in the resthouse, you can keep your belongings safely there and start exploring the vicinity. Conveniently you can get camping essentials here, so there’s not to worry much about spending the night.

There are alternative camping sites in the valley too. You can set up a camp right in the middle of the valley where you will find a little cave fit for 5 to 6 people. Else, a little away from the valley will lead you to a bigger cavern where it can accommodate 15 to 20 people. Regardless, you need to bring camping essentials of your own such as sleeping bags, tarpaulins, cooking utensils and essentials, firewood, and a lot more.
